Sukiyaki Bento by Demi-Plum Sukiyaki Bento by Demi-Plum
Not the best picture I know, but getting up before the sun really sucks. This bento was really delicious, especially since I've been craving traditional Japanese foods lately. Since there's no beef I guess it's not exactly sukiyaki anymore, but I used up all the beef I had when I made it for my dad and me for supper. Anyway this bento contains:

Hair Layer:
Miso Soup - (Tofu, Scallions, Shiro Miso, Grated Ginger)

Face Layer:
Sukiyaki - (Udon Noodles -hidden under the Sukiyaki-, Shiitake, Enoki, Shimeji, Grilled Tofu, Cabbage, Konyaku -yam noodles, my favorite!-)

Bottom Layer:
Sweet Pickled Cucumber and Ginger (Homemade)
Sauteed Cabbage and Picked Ginger (Gari - kind that goes with sushi)
Cherry Tomato (Hidden between the two cups)
Broccoli (Hidden with the tomato)
Honeydew Melon

Can:
My favorite Ito En Green Tea!

Please Enjoy~!

I had sukiyaki for the first time on New Year's Eve this year when my boyfriend came to visit. Him and I went to a sushi place, and I wanted to try the sukiyaki since I'd never seen it on their menu before. (I don't like sushi, so I always get something from the kitchen menu! :) ) It was so yummy! My boyfriend kept stealing bites of it, too. I took some home to eat later, but as soon as I got in the door, the bottom of the bag broke, and the containers sukiyaki fell between my knee and the end table beside the front door. What a mess that was!

Aww that sucks. I've never had it out, only made it at home. But it's very much worth it.

No it isn't..... sadly. That would be amazing if it was. These can be found on Jbox for like $30. There are 4 types to choose from (as long as they're in stock)

Aughhh I made sukiyaki recently for the first time and got to try konyaku noodles.

Ive tried konyaku in block form in the past and absolutely hated it. XD But in noodle form, its the best ever. ; A ; Anyway uber jealous of the compact sukiyaki tier. XD Looks so good. > A<

I KNOW RIGHT?! I use the block Konyaku in my curry and while it was edible, I didn't really care for it, but the noodles I'm in freaking LOVE with!

Haha I know I buy my bento for the different shapes and then think about cuteness. So many people think of the look over the shape when the shape is what really counts. Yes cute is good and every once in a while it's ok to get a cute one, but the shape is so important to have a lot of different kinds so you can pick your bento according to the food you are going to be taking.

I always get overwhelmed by the cute when Im looking at bentos. Unfortunately though, I havent come across any uniquely shaped tiers to hold certain food. Its just the general size/style. Rectangular or what have you.

Like I cant for the life of me find one thats built with a lid for a tier so I can actually pack soup (safely) or something like that. XD Nevermind something round and compact like in this picture.

You can find all kinds you just have to look for them is all. I've come across all kinds of shapes.

Haha if you want something that can safely hold soup you should get a thermal bento. Wether you want your soup warm or cold it can do both. I just don't eat cold soup myself. I use it for all kinds of things though. Soup, risotto, mac n' cheese, fried rice. Whatever I want to keep warm it works.

Awesome! Can't wait to see what you have next! I might ask you for some recopies at some point... is that ok? I have no idea how to cook the food for the bentos... I usually just guess.... XD

A lot of the recipes I use are just recipes I normally use to eat from. Some are special for bento, but most are like "hmmm, well I had ____ for dinner soooo it can be lunch too!" >w<

I don't mind giving out recipes or where I got them from though so don't feel bad about asking. The whole bento community is a sharing community ^w^

Awe sweet! I am super boring when it comes to food... I know how to cook plain white rice... and I make a pretty tasty omelet but that is about it.... OH I do know how to cut up a hot dog thing so that when it cooks it bends out to look like an octopus!!! :D XDDD

Haha >w< sounds like you just need some recipes is all!

I started cooking at a very young age so I learned a lot about the fundamentals of cooking and now I make up my own recipes and alter ones I find.
