Happy New Year Everyone! I decided I wanted my first deviation of 2011 to be a New Years Bento. But not only did I want to pay homage to the American New Year's celebration, I also thought it would be proper to also celebrate the Chinese New Year! In America Champagne and Strawberries are a classic New Year treat. And during the Chinese New Year money is given to children. This year is also the year of the Rabbit so I thought I should mention that in my bento. The contents of this bento:
American New Year Side: Champagne - Colby Cheese Strawberry - Home Made Chocolate Covered Strawberry (by myself) 2011 - Nori Background - Rice with 3 Sesame (Kuro, Shiiro, Garlic!)
Chinese New Year Side: Year of the Rabbit - Rice ball with Colby Ears, Crab and Nori Eyes, Black Sesame Eyelashes, Nori mouth and nose, Ketchup cheeks New Years Money - Colby Cheese, Crab String Peaches of Longevity - Cherry Tomato, Cilantro Leaves Base - Spaghetti with Ketchup and Pesto, Broccoli with Butter
I recently decided to get a bento book with my Christmas money and, eager to try out some of their recipes, got inspired to make this bento. The book is called Yum-Yum Bento Box and gave me the instructions for the Rabbit and Spaghetti, which I of course doctored up to match what I wanted and needed. It's a great book and I hope to get more so I can do some really awesome bento in the future!
I hope everyone's new year is filled with good food and creativity! Good Luck in the Kitchen~!
