I would suggest fresh veggies, rice, and grilled meats. You could do a bit of salmon, or chicken. You can also use natural lettuce dividers. Pickled veggies are also very good for you. You can make your own too and it's easy. Rice is my stable so it's in almost every bento I pack. When I was counting calories I would only put a certain amount in (measure it out). Fresh fruit is also good, but in small amounts since they tend to have higher calories and sugar. But I suggest collecting different recipes for chicken, salmon, shrimp (ect) so you have plenty of choices to choose from. I would also suggest doing the same for veggie side dishes too.

Thank you. Haha not always, but bento boxes look a lot bigger in photos than they are in real life. If you've ever bought one from online when it gets to you you're always surprised at how small they are. They hold a lot more than you would think though. Plus over the years I've gone down in mL. It depends on what I'm doing that day and how long it is. I change the mL depending upon the day.

I hate leaving food too. I feel bad and I tend to over eat because of that when I go out to a restaurant. Lucky for me I don't get to go out very frequently.
Haha aww it's no problem. Since I really don't know what you like and what you don't like I can only offer suggestions.
If you like rice I would suggest making a couple of onigiri. Or you could always do a stir fry of rice. If you're not a fan of it or do not have japanese style short grain rice you can make noodles and top them with the chicken. Depending on what you like to flavor your noodles with you can go with an asian flavor scheme and use teriyaki, stir fry, or whatever kind of sauce you like. If you like peanuts/peanut butter here is a recipe that you might like, I've had it and it's really not bad at all:[link] If you don't like an ingredient then you can leave it out or replace it. I don't really care for red peppers so I would add something like broccoli, asparagus, corn, carrots, ect. Things that I actually like and eat.
Since I also don't know the size and shape of your bento box I can only guess on what you can and cannot fit into your box. If you have a two tier box then I would fill the top tier with the noodles/rice and chicken and the bottom with veggies and fruit or salad. If you have a single tier box then fill half with the noodle/rice/chicken mixture and the other half with veggies/fruit/salad. I would add maybe a slice of apple (soak it in salt water for a few minutes to prevent browning) and a couple of grapes. If you're don't have veggies you want to add then add a salad and pack the dressing on the side. That way it won't get all over the fruit and it won't make your lettuce soggy.
I hope that helps! I had precious few details to work with and if you have any more questions then please don't hesitate to ask me. I love helping with bento questions.

Aww you are so sweet. I just try my best to help out really. And I also have boxes in all shapes and sizes. I like to use them to fit the food best. What fits into which box really makes a difference sometimes.

Well most of my recipes you see actually in my bento. If you like sandwiches then you can try one of my favorites, I had this today actually. I find a nice artisan bread and slice it about a quarter of an inch thick or so. I don't like a ton of bread, but if you do go for it. For the filling I put in a little thinly sliced turkey (or as much as you like-I'm not a huge fan of deli meats, but I like a little), like deli thin sliced (it can be ham or chicken or whatever meat you like), and for cheese I layer on a very nice brie and then top it with some thinly sliced granny smith apples. It's a very nice combination.
For the side you could put in an apple slice or some orange segments. You should get some veggies in there too. You could do carrot sticks or some cucumber too. Any veggies that you like that are easy to eat without utensils since this bento would be a hands on kinda bento.
I'm not exactly sure when I'll post a new bento. It's not that I'm not making them it's just that I don't usually have time to shoot them. I'll try to put one up soon. Maybe I'll make one tomorrow. Maybe I'll make this sandwich too since I still have the ingredients. We'll just have to see since I have a ton of homework still.
Haha no problem Sweets. I hope you enjoy it!

I have something to say o.o

Well, it happens that I've been thinking about it a while ago, and the thing is that I love bentos and the way they look, for example those that you make, but I look at your bentos, and then I look at the lunch I take to school and I'm like hell... That's a LOT of food!! I don't eat that much!!

Usually you mix four to seven different things on your bento, but my "bento" usually has three different things and somehow I feel that is more than enough, but then it's only a plain lunch XDDDDD

The difference between our bentos is probably proportions. I pack a lot of small things instead of a substantial amount of a few. My bento are all around 500mL of food, which is about 100mL less than recommended for my height and age. It all really just depends on how hungry you are and how long the meal must last you for.
Bento boxes are also a factor. Depending on the size you have (or if you are using a tubber wear container) will also greatly effect the amount of food you prepare. Most people when they get their very first bento box are quite shocked at how small the box really is. You wouldn't think that it' would be quite so small, and I was the same way. My stomach has shrunk since I got my first bento to fit down to the size and amount of food that I am eating. I am usually satisfied or more than satisfied with the amount I am eating. If you have bought a bento box you should check the mL that it can carry. It might appear that we have the same sized box, but that might not be so. Just a thought.
Don't forget that we also probably have an age gap which also changes the amount of food that is to be consumed.
I hope this answers any questions that you have or satisfies any wonders that you have thought up. If you have any other questions or inquiries don't hesitate to ask. I love to talk bento!

Actually I was really glad that you answered, cause as soon as I hit "send" I felt that anything of what I said had sense at all haha

I will see how much can my bento carry and I will tell you.. *goes to kitchen*

*comes back from kitchen* Mine (the one that I use the most actually) it's a lock and lock rectangular that can carry 800 ml (God I had NEVER turned around that thing, it was writen on the back! haha), but I guess I fill 600, more or least (so we're around the same), any idea?

What I (well, my mom, actually XDD) usually put in, is meat (chicken, pig, fish, cow, whatsoever), and then rice (or bread, or potatoes of any kinds, or... you know what I mean), and then vegetables, but if I have something that mixes two groups, then I have only two items, like today, I had lasagna and broccoli and it was so delicious and I liked it so much (my stomach also shrunk haha a looot), but now seeing your bento I know that something is missing D:

Haha I understood what you were saying >w<

Wow that is a lot! That's what I thought the problem was too. My bento is almost half the size of yours (well all my bento really... whenever I even look at a bento I check out the mL size first, I try to stay around 500mL) which is why I can pack it full and be happy with that.

When I first started to do bento I used to put only a couple of things in at a time too. I didn't really know how to put things together. Now I realize that i like a lot of little tastes so I usually put in as many small things as I can. You're not missing anything per say, but I think you're interested in having a lot of small tastes like I do. I like to use a lot of fruit, veggies, or small treats to fill space. I don't usually add dessert, but sometimes it's just yummy to have.

Mochi does produce that kind of feeling in myself sometimes. I find the more I eat it, the more I get used to it and the more I like it. I find that a lot with Japanese cuisine. Since I didn't grow up eating their native childhood foods (I was eating sushi before I had teeth, I've been eating Japanese food since then just not the house wife/mom's good old home cooking - which i am trying to learn how to make for when I have my own children!) I find that it's more of a "I'm just not used to this" type of thing for me. After having whatever it is a few times I start to realize I actually like it.

That makes total sense. Kinda like okra, if you've never had it, the slimey thing will get to you, but the more you eat it, the more you just notice the fact that it's fried and kinda peppery lol. It also helps if you don't try to eat mochi for the first time at 9:00am after not having eaten anything previously. Bit much lol.

Oh wow, you're going to make bento for your future babies? That is so cool!

Haha yes that wouldn't be a good idea!
I've had okra once, I cut it up and had it almost raw in a japanese soup I made, I actually didn't mind it. I saw a recipe for fried okra that I really want to try though! But the last time I went to the grocery store they were all limp and squishie... so I didn't get any. I'm hoping it will be better next time because I really want to try it fried!
Oh yes I am! Bento is so much healthier than that crappy american snack foods. Little quanities isn't bad, but americans like to over eat. I'm going to make sure my kids are healthy. I mean I don't count calories, but if I see something is a lot I try to avoid them.

Fried is the best way in my opinion. All the mucilaginous stuff goes away and the bell-pepper like flavor of it shines through. If they still look limp, try frozen peices. They work really well to fry. ^.^

That is a great idea. I know, all those fast food places are just full of grossness. Besides, making bentos is fun! :D
